50 Things To Do in Greater Austin, TX #3 Georgetown Christmas Stroll

Get Festive at the Georgetown Christmas Stroll!

About 30 minutes north of downtown Austin, TX lies the quaint and bustling suburb of Georgetown. They say ‘Everything is Bigger in Texas‘ and when it comes to street festivals, Georgetown does not disappoint! The Georgetown Christmas Stroll is held on the first weekend of December and transforms the whole downtown Square into a twinkling holiday spectacle with attractions for everyone in the family to enjoy!

gtown-txYou’ll feel like you stepped into a Christmas card as you meander around the courthouse on the square and see all the trees outlined in pretty lights. Let the sounds of children singing carols from the main stage transport you into that holiday spirit. You can meet Santa at the Christmas Tree Farm and maybe chat with the Grinch in Who-ville!

Looking for something more traditional? Head down the block and into Bethlehem Village where you can watch woodworkers using tools from ancient times. While you’re there, the kids will want to be sure to say ‘Hi’ to the goats and donkeys in the live nativity scene!

Vendors of all kinds of goods line the streets around the courthouse and many of the stores on the square are open late so you can shop till you drop! You’ll find one of a kind clothing, art, pottery, gourmet dog treats, yummy-smelling soaps and candles, and unique handmade instruments-my favorites were the cigar box guitars and amps!

cake-popsYou’ll need to stay fueled up out in the chilly weather and there are lots of delicious ways to do it! Stop by Mesquite Creek Outfitters, the fun and funky new sporting good’s place on the square that has a full bar right inside the store! Also, sample the specialty dips on pretzel sticks and all the other mouth-watering snacks from the food vendors on the street…for dessert, it’s worth a visit to the adorable pink food truck selling Cake Pops!
